Data Stored via the Provenance Toolkit

The Datafund Provenance Toolkit enables you to store data on the Swarm decentralized network and optionally anchor data hashes on a public blockchain (currently Base Sepolia). It is important to understand the privacy implications of using these tools:

Public by Default

Data uploaded to the Swarm network is stored on a public, decentralized network. If your data is not encrypted before upload, it may be accessible to anyone with the Swarm reference hash. You are responsible for encrypting sensitive data before uploading.

Both networks are global infrastructure — data is distributed across nodes worldwide, with no geographic restrictions once uploaded.

Immutable and Non-Deletable

Data hashes anchored on the blockchain are immutable and cannot be modified or deleted. Swarm data also cannot be selectively removed — it remains available during postage stamp validity.

Swarm Storage Duration

Data on Swarm is rented storage persisting as long as the associated postage stamp is valid. When the stamp expires, data may become unavailable.

Your Responsibility

By using the Provenance Toolkit, you accept responsibility for uploaded data and must ensure you have the right to publish it.
